Roots & Wings Youth Leaders ProgramAngelic Organics Learning Center offers the Roots & Wings Youth Leader Program to increase youth job skills through community-based urban farming, business, and cooking trainings.
In order to participate in the summer Youth Leader Program, youth (ages 12-18) are nominated by a leader in their community. Current Youth Leaders interview and hire the nominees. Youth Leaders participate in up to 25 hours per week of farming, selling, and/or cooking, and earn a stipend based on five core behaviors (respect, initiative, timeliness, preparedness, and participation). Farming: While farming, Youth Leaders learn about planning, planting, weeding, and harvesting. Selling: While selling produce, Youth Leaders learn about vegetable prices, customer service, supply and demand, record keeping, and running a small business. Cooking: While in cooking sessions, Youth Leaders learn about meal planning, healthy food, kitchen safety, food preparation, and cooking techniques. |
